In a bid to promote safe-riding habits and encouraging two-wheeler riders as well as pillion-riders to always wear a helmet, the #HelmetForLife, initiative in Pune was kicked-off in the presence of Traffic Police officials from Pune and SMIPL’s management. The Suzuki Motorcycle India management also presented Gixxer motorcycles to Pune Police. Under the #HelmetForLife campaign, Suzuki Motorcycle India will be distributing 60 Gixxer motorcycles to the traffic-authorities and more than 12000 helmets, across 13-cities during the next few days.

Under the ‘Helmet For Life’, volunteers from Suzuki Motorcycle India distributed helmets at specific traffic-signals to those riders and pillions on a two-wheeler, who were issued a challan by the traffic-police for riding without a helmet. The objective of this initiative is to inculcate a behavioural change amongst two-wheeler riders, and make helmet wearing habit intrinsic to their lifestyle.

Mr Sajeev Rajasekharan, Executive Vice President, SMIPL said, “About 28 two-wheeler riders die daily on Indian roads due to not wearing a helmet. Despite this, we have observed, especially amongst youngsters, a casual attitude towards wearing helmet. We understand that more than awareness, the challenge is to inculcate wearing helmet as a habit amongst two-wheeler riders. And hence, we came up with the ‘Helmet for Life’ initiative. Through the helmet distribution activity with the support of Pune Traffic Police, we hope to take the message of safe-riding to maximum number of people in Pune.”

The helmet distribution activity was executed at high-density traffic areas of Pune, like Sancheti Hospital Chowk, RTO Chowk, Swargate Chowk, Tilak Road, Lai Chowk, Golf Course Chowk (Business Bay Chowk) and Kalyani Nagar.

The 13-cities that will be covered in this phase of ‘#HelmetForLife’ campaign besides Pune are Gurugram, Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Surat, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Calicut, Nagpur and Kolkata.
