Netflix’s “Murder Mubarak” boasts a star-studded cast and a seemingly intriguing premise: a murder amidst the opulent Delhi social club. However, the film struggles to balance its whodunnit plot with social satire, leaving a trail of wasted potential.

The story opens with a bang – a patriarch of the club lies dead. Enter ACP Bhavani Singh (Pankaj Tripathi), whose folksy charm offers a refreshing counterpoint to the club’s elitist members. Sara Ali Khan sheds her usual bubbly persona to play Bambi, a fiery socialite with secrets. The sprawling cast includes veterans like Karisma Kapoor and Tisca Chopra, but their characters are frustratingly underdeveloped.

Director Homi Adajania attempts to weave a dark comedy around the investigation. Glimpses into the club members’ lives reveal a world of infidelity, hidden agendas, and desperate attempts to maintain appearances. The satire hits home at times, but the humor often feels forced, clashing with the seriousness of the murder.

Visually, “Murder Mubarak” is a mixed bag. The opulent sets and designer clothes capture the exclusivity of the club. However, the camerawork feels uninspired, failing to build suspense or create a sense of claustrophobia that could have amplified the mystery.

The biggest letdown is the pacing. The film drags, especially in the second half. The investigation unfolds slowly, revealing red herrings and underdeveloped motives. The eventual reveal is predictable, leaving a sense of disappointment.

While the performances are a saving grace, with Tripathi and Sara delivering their best, “Murder Mubarak” fails to live up to its star power. It’s a film with a shiny exterior, but underneath, it lacks a coherent core.
