‘Pushtaini’, inspired by the age old art of Madhubani, aims to merge Indian Art and Fashion into a cohesive approach towards innovation in surface ornamentation in Agami’s Winter-Festive 2018 collection.

An artisanal mix of the two worlds drives Agami to push their boundaries in innovation by reinventing zardozi embroidery in contemporary patterns that gives the wearer a sense of belonging to her cultural roots. The nuanced art of Madhubani takes centre stage in their new offering; often characterized by complex geometrical patterns and vivid color palettes, the paintings were traditionally done with twigs and fingers.

Designed for the modern Indian woman of today, Agami by Neha Agarwal’s latest collection aims to empower and embolden the wearer with their innovative approach to surface textures and ornamentation.

Designer Profile:

AGAMI is the brainchild of designer Neha Agarwal who founded the label in 2014 to create timeless pieces of art in the realm of fashion. As the Founder and Creative Director of the label, her creative domain is driven by meticulously handcrafted surface texturing and innovation in the field of design.

Having graduated with B.A. Honors in Fashion Design and Marketing from The London College of Fashion in United Kingdom, Neha proceeded to intern with designer Sonia Rykiel in London in 2008. She subsequently moved to Mumbai and found her voice as an Assistant Designer and Stylist for ace fashion designer, Manish Malhotra for the next two years. After working as a freelance stylist for Cineyug, one of Mumbai’s premier entertainment companies, she gave free reign to her passion for fashion design in 2014. And thus, AGAMI was born.

Over the course of the next four years, Neha has focused on driving the label from strength to strength. As an established name on the Lakme Fashion Week and the social circuit, she has had celebrities such as Anushka Sharma, Vaani Kapoor and more recently, Janhvi Kapoor and Kiara Advani sport her creations. Today, she credits the delicate art of surface texture and innovation as her strengths, and hopes to further reinvent traditional Indian clothing for modern women.

Brand Profile:

AGAMI by Neha Agarwal serves up an infusion of innovative handcrafted surface texturing with experimental pattern construction, captivating the imagination of modern women with eclectic sensibilities. The ideal AGAMI woman has an experimental mindset and isn’t afraid of carrying off statement looks.

The label made its debut at the much-touted LakméFashion Week Winter/Festive 2014 on the Gen Next stage. Founding designer Neha Agarwal has since carved a niche for herself by occupying real estate in multi-designer stores like Atosa (Mumbai), Aza (Mumbai and Delhi), Azra (Raipur), Elahe (Hyderabad), 85 Lansdowne (Kolkata), Evoluzione (Chennai), and has also made its presence felt online by stocking on Aashni + Co.

The brand aesthetic is driven by revisiting traditional Indian crafts, encouraging the age-old legacy of Indian couture by adapting it in an unconventional and contemporary manner to suit the style sensibilities of the women of today.

AGAMI aims at exploring hand-woven textiles and crafts from different parts of the country, challenging the constraints of conventional fashion while keeping its core essence intact. Looking ahead, Neha hopes to explore and tap into the yet-to-be-discovered avenues in fashion design by taking inspiration from the ancient historic art and culture around the world and teaming it with eclectic experimentation in surface texturing and garment construction, thus pushing the envelope on sartorial innovation.
